Rules Summary

Feud replicates the tile distribution and bingo bonus conventions used by Wordfeud, the Scandinavian Scrabble-family game popular in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and internationally. The 13-E distribution and +40 bingo position Wordfeud between WWF (+35) and Classic (+50) in terms of bingo incentive — slightly more aggressive than WWF, slightly less than Classic.

The 15×15 board uses Scrabble-compatible premium squares. Two to four players, 7-tile rack, standard anchor and center-square-first rules. Wordfeud's published bingo convention is +40 for using all 7 tiles on a single turn. Dictionary is TWL06 by default with SOWPODS available in room options.

Tile Distribution & Values

Wordfeud uses a 104-tile bag with 2 blank tiles. Point values and counts for each letter are enforced by the game server from src/game/variants.js — the same source of truth the matchmaker uses when constructing a new game room.

Board Layout

15×15 board (currently aliased to Scrabble cross layout — per-variant layout coming soon). Premium squares only trigger on the turn a new tile is placed — covering an already-used premium square again does not re-trigger it.

Strategy Tips

Tip 1 — The +40 sweet spot. Wordfeud's +40 bingo sits right at the tipping point where 7-tile plays are definitely worth setting up but not SO valuable that you should always wait for them. A good rule of thumb: if you can score 50+ on a 4-6 letter play with a word or letter multiplier, take it instead of holding for a bingo.
Tip 2 — The E-heavy rack. With 13 Es in the bag, you will often find yourself with 2 or 3 Es on your rack. Don't get stuck on them — look for E-heavy word patterns like REED, SEED, DEEP, KEEP, PEEL, WEED. Playing an E through a premium square cheap is usually better than holding for a theoretical bingo.
Tip 3 — Nordic word-finder hotkeys. Wordfeud players often memorize short high-value words: ZA (11pt), JO (9pt), QI (11pt), XI (9pt), XU (9pt). These 2-letter plays are great for unlocking premium squares while chaining into longer cross-words.
Tip 4 — The Q trap. With only 1 Q in the bag and 4 Us (same as Classic), stuck-Q situations are common. If you draw a Q without a U, play it into a Q-no-U word (QAT, QI, QADI, QANAT) immediately — don't let it sit on your rack eating a slot for 3 turns.
