Rules Summary

Classic at Puzz.com uses standard Scrabble-family rules on a 15×15 board. Two to four players take turns drawing seven tiles from the bag and forming words horizontally or vertically. The first move must cover the center square. Every subsequent move must connect to an existing word on the board. Words are validated against the TWL06 dictionary (the official Scrabble tournament word list in North America). You can opt into SOWPODS (the international tournament dictionary) in the room options before the game starts.

Premium squares multiply the score of letters placed on them: DL doubles the letter, TL triples it, DW doubles the whole word you form, and TW triples the whole word. Premium squares only trigger on the turn a new tile is placed — covering an already-used premium square again does not re-trigger it. When you play all seven of your rack tiles in a single turn (a "bingo"), you earn a +50 bonus on top of the normal word score.

Tile Distribution & Values

Classic uses the original Scrabble distribution: 100 tiles total, 2 of which are blanks. The bag contains 98 lettered tiles plus 2 blanks. Point values range from 1 (for common letters A, E, I, L, N, O, R, S, T, U) to 10 (for Q and Z).

Classic Strategy Tips

Tip 1 — Protect your S and blank tiles. With only 4 Ss and 2 blanks in the bag, these are the highest-leverage tiles. Don't burn them on low-scoring plays. Hold them for bingos, parallel plays, or pluralization opportunities that unlock triple-word-score squares.
Tip 2 — Watch the Q-without-U words. The Q is worth 10 points but hard to play without a U. Memorize the Q-no-U list: QAT, QI, QOPH, QADI, QANAT, QINTAR, QWERTY, TRANQ, FAQIR. Knowing these frees you from needing to exchange your Q back to the bag.
Tip 3 — Hunt for bingos early. The +50 bingo bonus is Classic's biggest scoring lever. Every turn, scan your rack for 6 tiles that might form a 7-letter word with one letter already on the board. Common bingo-friendly rack patterns: -S, -ED, -ING, -ER, -IER, -IEST, RE-, UN-, OUT-.
Tip 4 — Defensive play around TW squares. When you see an open Triple Word Score with a path back to your opponent's next letter, play defensively by blocking the lane or placing a low-value letter that doesn't set up a scoring opportunity. Giving your opponent a TW-bingo combo can swing a game by 100+ points.
Tip 5 — End-game rack management. When the bag is running low (7 or fewer tiles left), track which letters are unaccounted for. The player who runs out of tiles first earns the unplayed-tile values from all remaining opponent racks. Dumping your V, W, X, and high-value letters into plays before the end-game is critical to avoid a big rack penalty.
