IQ Teaser #8
Using a crude fulcrum-based weighing scale with 2 weighing pans and no numeric measures, you must weigh some objects, each of which will weigh 1 to 6 pounds, in 1 pound increments (i.e. none will weigh 1.5 or 3.75 pounds, for example). The size and appearance of the objects cannot assist you in determining their weights. Knowing the above, and if you can only weigh 1 of these objects at a time, what is the minimum number of weights you would need in order to be certain of the weights of any of the objects? Your weights can also only be in whole number 1 pound increments.
