27 cubes are individually numbered 1-27, and then assembled into a larger cube (so 9 cubes on the top layer, 9 in the middle, and 9 on the bottom). No consecutively numbered cubes may have their faces touching. That is, cube 7 cannot have any of its faces touching any of cube 8's, etc. Given this, of the following choices, which cube would allow the largest number of possible permutations of the surrounding cubes if it was placed in the center of the larger cube?
